- The Science and Engineering Apprentice Program for high school and college students, is a program sponsored by the Department of Defense.
- It provides students with invaluable experience and exposure to the world of engineering and scientific research.
- The program offers apprenticeships for high school and college qualified leaders interested in science and engineering.
- The students are assigned to a participating organization to pursue technical experiences with a scientist or engineer who serves as a mentor to the apprentice for 8 to 12 continuous weeks.
Who can participate?
- Applicants must be an academically talented student with an interest in science and engineering.
- Applicants must be 15 years of age before the beginning of the program June 1, 2010.
- Applicants must be willing to spend 8 to 12 continuous weeks in the apprentice program.
- Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and have obtained a social security card before the start of the program.
What can participants receive?
- First year participants are awarded an educational stipend of $2000.00
- Returning and college student awards vary depending on program tenure and classification.
Program Dates
- June 1- July 23, 2010 (8 weeks)
- June 1 - August 6, 2010 (10 weeks)
- June 1 - August 20, 2010 (12 weeks)
